Rambling About Spending

It’s interesting how people who are so concerned about how much is spent on programs that help people, advance community and make our world a better place to live won’t flinch at what is spent on the military industrial complex. To me working on making our world a better place to live, reducing crime and promoting peace with nations is a worthy investment. No one likes to pay more than their fair share of taxes but you know sometimes you have to invest in things that matter to the vast majority of people and can do the most good. Death and taxes are a certain but perhaps while I am living I can improve the present and invest in the future.

The State of the Union is the address presented by the President of the United States to a joint session of the United States Congress, typically delivered annually.

President Obama will deliver his 6th SOTU tonight at 9:00 PM Eastern Time from Washington DC. It is always interesting to see what goes on and how people react to what the president has to say. I am a supporter of President Obama and there have been things I have agreed with and other things I have had questions about. He deserves respect in this task that he must perform. He will have a much tougher room this year. We shall see what happens.

Getting Friendly With Cuba

Today the President announced that the process will begin to normalize relations with Cuba. I think its about time, actually it should have been done years ago. The island nation would benefit from a two-way exchange of commerce and ideas. Families have been separated because of the embargo that has been in place since the Cold War. Of course there will be a instant run on Cuban cigars which have been “banned” for years. Let’s see how this shakes out, I am happy about this event. It’s time we get friendly with Cuba. 

Children Of The World

Standard

May the children of the world never be pawns in the political games of their countries. From the Middle East to The Americas we see stories of children who are suffering, dying, leaving their families. God be with them and may their be peace on earth. Protecting the children of the world so they can realize the opportunities of tomorrow is important.

Troubling Situation In The Ukraine

There is some trouble going on in the Ukraine. I don’t pretend to understand what’s totally going on there but it seems there is some serious political unrest in that nation. The government is in turmoil as its prime minister has fled. Russia seems to be saber rattling in the Crimea region. I hope things settle down there and that there is no return to a cold war situation we found in the 1960’s and 1970’s. We shall see what happens. Peace is always best.
