Change Is Gonna Come

Standard

Lamenting change is difficult. Things come and go and you have to accept it as a part of life. No matter if its family, faith, friendship transition and change are a part of it all. We can remember the good old days or we can do something new and different. Its all up to us to plot the course we will take. We are in a partnership with our higher power in the direction we take.

Family

In life sometimes the only thing that truly matters is the people you love. Your family by birth or by choice are there to help give you identity and to sustain you and give you belonging. It’s those people that help you make lasting memories both good and bad. No matter what, be sure that you love those people and live together in a peace that knows no bounds. God, the universe, circumstances gave you those connections and community to enhance your life. Treasure the time you have together. Lord have mercy and thank you for giving me such people.

I am very, very grateful to have two parents who have loved me and cared for me in my life. I am also very aware not everyone has been blessed in this way. My hope is that those who have had challenging relationships with ones parents that reconciliation is an option or they have have people in their lives who can act as “adopted” parents. Some families have strained relationships so there are times when you have to do something unconventional to have a family of ones choosing. Whether it be people from a house of worship or a group of friends in a cos play organization I hope everyone, has people they can rely upon.

Keeping Thanksgiving About Family, Not Bargains

As the Christmas creep seems to be getting worse, many retailers are opening on Thanksgiving evening to beat the competition to the punch and to get shoppers in their doors. What this is doing is infringing on their workers ability to celebrate the holiday as has been done for years.

I like the spirit of the person who made the above graphic.

Retailers need to be held accountable for their actions. Keeping customers and workers at home for a few more hours won’t break the bank. There are plenty of shopping days between Black Friday and Christmas Eve.

This says a lot about our national priorities. Getting the best deal possible as soon as possible seems sad to me. I am old fashioned when it comes to spending time with family and loved ones during the holiday’s. Lets stop this chaos.
