Tumblr and WordPress

For the past couple of weeks I have been blogging on both Tumblr and WordPress. My reasons for doing so is to have a redundant solution for blogging. In the light of the changes happening with Yahoo’s intentions for Tumblr I feel that using both would be a smart thing. WordPress seems to be a stable, suitable blogging community that anyone could migrate to and maintain relationships with fellow bloggers from across the world.

My advice for what its worth is for every person on Tumblr to have a alternative ready to migrate to. There are fewer options these days unfortunately so making a decision is a personal one. Many folks who like to create original posts would find WordPress a great place. However those who do mostly reblogging of fandom stuff will find it harder to migrate. You can import your Tumblr blog to WordPress very easily.

So my friends know I am not going anywhere. There are a lot of people I have made great friendly connections with here on Tumblr and I don’t want to lose any of you. Thanks for your friendship and common bond.

Being Original

I believe in being the star of my own blog. Being creative is fun and being original is freedom. We need new voices and views of the world. My blog is a outlet for my thoughts and outlook. I can make connections too with people who are of like mind. We need more personal blogs where we can be ourselves.

The Old Guy, The Younger Follower, How Does This Work?

I am a middle-aged dork and it always amazes me when I get younger followers. Many of them are like half my age. I am not all that cool y’all. Sometimes my efforts to be relevant come across as being silly or head shaking. Maybe people like genuine people no matter what time of life they are in.

Thanks for your interest and friendship anyway.

A word to you my Tumblr followers

I am continuing my blog I have started on WordPress. It’s a great blogging platform and I still feel that Tumblr is heading into a uncertain future.

This might be a little hypocritical in light of prior posts saying I will blog exclusively at Tumblr. Both are free and it will give me some additional ways to express and create cool things online.

I won’t abandon you my friends. You are cool and are a part of my online community.

Hello Wednesday!

My college roommate said on Facebook that its a double whammy today…its tax day and its raining here in east Tennessee. Well not every day can be sunshine, puppies and happiness, although it would be great if it were. Today I am at work, doing good things for myself and for others so I guess there is a silver lining behind the rain clouds. Let us all have the best day possible given the…

A New Week Has Begun

A New Week Has Begun – Good morning good people, it’s a new day #monday

Good morning, good people. Its a new day, a new week a new set of opportunities to do good things. My anniversary weekend was a great time to be together with my wife and for us to get a few things done around the house. I am grateful for the three-day weekend afforded to me by work. Now I am back on the job ready to make things happen and of course to earn a few dollars along the way. After work…

WordPress Report, Yeah I Like

Friends, my time with WordPress has been a positive experience. There are a lot of people doing creative and original things there. A lot of full featured posts with in-depth writing and sharing of ideas and experiences.

What I have discovered is that as a social platform its not the greatest, well Tumblr has its shortcomings too but that’s beside the point. This is a platform for all ages but its a place where you will find a more mature audience.

The site gives you loads of customizing options along with lots of ways to connect with others across the web. At its heart its a content management system where you control what you want to post. One can cross-post to Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr.

It is not as easy as Tumblr so you have to do some homework and lots of experimenting to make things work the way you want.

It has a dashboard like feature where you can read blogs you are following and it has a built in commentary system. You can’t do anything anonymously there which is something I like very much. They put a lot into keeping spam to a minimum.

As I discover more, I will share with you what I find. I will admit I like it a lot and I need to figure out how to use both sites to expand my social reach and to be more engaged with fellow bloggers.

I advise to go ahead and claim the name you want there. If things go south quick with Tumblr you want to be ready to pick up your posting elsewhere. Hopefully your followers will migrate with you.

My Experiment With WordPress

I am experimenting with WordPress the popular blogging platform. My reason for doing so is to see how it works as a social blogging system. I will share my findings with you and let you know what my experience is. Some day we might have to migrate there because Tumblr could radically be different because of Yahoo. My advice is to open a blog there and test it for yourself. Stay tuned for more information.

To Those Who Say Tumblr Is Not A Proper Blog

You are wrong. Plenty of people write full length posts here along with posting pictures and other media. Some define it as “micro blogging” but it’s much more than that. Granted there are not as many bells and whistles as Blogger or WordPress but when you care mostly about content and getting your point across quickly this is a great platform for that. You also have a built in audience of millions of users which is nice too. Keep on blogging Tumblr nation.
