Me and Music
StandardI admit I am not up on a lot of the most popular music. My information on contemporary music comes from Saturday Night Live, TV and Tumblr. Retro music is what comforts me and reminds me of times gone by. It’s not that I want to not bring in new music into my life, I think I do some of that but its good to think outside the box. I listen to NPR in my truck and when I am home during the day. At this point in my life I enjoy learning about new things, being up to date on important events and gaining perspective on the world around me. Listening to public radio and watching public TV is probably the most nerdy thing you can do but I enjoy what I hear. So tonight as Grammy’s are being handed out, I will be watching Downton Abbey and Sherlock. The drama of a family and a consulting detective is more interesting to me than the awards show tonight.
NPR Live, Online and Via Podcasts
StandardI am a big fan of podcasts. I also love NPR and I listen to it on my local station WUTC FM 88 when I am in my truck and at home online when I am in my Nerd Corner.
On the NPR website there is a directory of podcasts from NPR’s headquarters and its member stations throughout the United States. You can listen to them on your favorite software platform, just subscribe by RSS or iTunes.
Better Blogging Through No TV, In Nerd Corner
StandardI have found that having the TV on while trying to blog is distracting. Lately I have turned the tube off in favor of listening to NPR online or a good podcast like “Welcome To Night Vale”.
What’s been on daytime TV lately hasn’t done anything to inspire me. Watching the news can be depressing sometimes and some non-news programming I have found to be repetitive.
There is a correlation between no TV and better blogging. I am more creative and the dialogue helps inspire me to compose better posts. As I have written in earlier posts having a desktop configuration has also helped me focus on what I am doing.
So friends, turn off the TV unless you can multi-task. You will find you can create better posts and it will improve what you are doing online.
Podcasts I’m Listening To
I have very nerdy tastes when it comes podcasts. I like to listen to things that inform and entertain me. As you see this list is kind of eclectic and uniquely me. If you want addresses for these podcasts let me know.
