The Chattanooga National Cemetery, On Memorial Day

My wife’s father is buried here along with other people we know. Its a hallowed place where many of our nations heroes from around here and their families are buried. Its interesting to see the names of the fallen, what branch they served in and what war they were a part of, if any.

The Girl and Boy Scouts each year decorate the tombstones of each person with an American flag the weekend of Memorial Day.

Memorial Day 2014

To all those who have given their lives to the service of our country I say thank you. Young men and women from all walks of life sign up to join the service branch of their choice and prepare themselves to defend our country. It’s on this day we honor your sacrifice and remember the great things you did for us all.

Memorial Day 2013 – Today we recognize real heroes who have served our country. Every man and woman who has worn the uniforms of our military have given their lives to preserve the freedoms we have today. So many gave the ultimate sacrifice with their lives. Others returned home and carry the burdens of war and conflict, they suffer sometimes in silence. Thank you to all those who made the choice to serve to defend and protect. I also extend the same regard to first responders who keep our streets safe too.

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends" John 15:13

Celebrating Memorial Day

We celebrated memorial day with my parents, sister and grandparents this afternoon. My father served in the Air Force and grandfather in the Navy. Homemade pork barbecue and all the fixings were on our holiday plate. Tonight we are watching Hatfields and McCoys on the History Channel. It’s been a good day today.

“I think it’s important for us as Americans and for the military to recognize that these dogs are forced to perform duties that most people wouldn’t choose to perform,” she said. “The only people who truly, truly know what they give us are their handlers and the soldiers who work with them.”

Our Memorial Day

We were both up early to get our Memorial Day started. I did my chorizo hash which is a yummy mess and Laura did some great homemade biscuits. Yummy stuff happens when there is teamwork so to speak. We are doing some things around the house today then headed to my parents for a family get together. Our dog has been a mess today, he can be demanding sometimes. It’s going to be a good day.

Memorial Day, Honoring Real Heroes – As we observe this national holiday let us remember those who have served and sacrificed. Men and women of all walks of life came together to wear the uniform of our Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force and Coast Guard. Some of these people gave their lives so that we can enjoy all the things that make our country a great nation. May God bless each family that remains and carries on.

Also we remember our police and fire personnel who have given everything in the line of duty in our communities.
