High School, Not My Glory Days

Standard

On Facebook many people I went to high school with are posting pix of their kids graduating from high school. All these pictures of high school graduations and the like gives me some fond memories of my time as a teenager. However it wasn’t my favorite time in life. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t horrible. I found that my life bloomed afterwards when I went to college where I could really be myself. I never really fit in during my high school days.

Congratulations Class of 2014

Standard

It’s the season for graduations and there is much to celebrate. Young men and women will realize the goal of advancing their education and making their family and friends proud of them. I am excited about current students my alma maters Hiwassee College, Middle Tennessee State University and Red Bank High School earning degrees and diplomas.

As students make the transition from high school, college and university they will be going into a world that is very competitive and changing rapidly. In the beginning of their educational journey students hope to learn the lessons they will need to change the world or perhaps make their personal situation better. The degree a person earns will open doors for the future, however there is a reality that what a person actually does for a living will be quite different. Your education helps you adapt to change and its good to be flexible as one looks for work. Be ready to tackle whatever your work puts in front of you.

Have no fear my fellow Tigers, Blue Raiders and Lions, use your education to make the world a better place. I am with you friends.

Going Back To High School, Would You Change Anything?

Standard

We all have memories of our days in high school. There are treasured events that happened in those days that we look back on fondly. Prom, football games, band concerts, debate team, glee club/choir and yes studying are things that made those days fun but challenging. If you could get in a time machine (DeLorean or TARDIS) would you want to go back and change anything.

Do you wish you could ask that person out you wanted to but didn’t have the nerve? Perhaps joined a club you should have, tried out for a play or a sports team? There are lots of things we wish you could do all those things. Or perhaps it was what it was.

High school is a time of making choices. Some good, some bad. But if you could change anything kind of in the spirit of “Peggy Sue Got Married” or “Back To The Future” would you?

Finals Week

Standard

All over the country college students are enduring the ritual of finals. Its a time for high stress, lack of sleep, disrupted schedules and more. Some are contemplating next year while others are leaving school for the real world. Don’t freak out, study smart, breathe and get rest when you can. I hope all those going through this will do great and when its all done may you find relief. God bless you all as you wrap up the year.
