Creatively Unfair!

Standard

I feel that the cable channels and premium channels who produce series have an unfair advantage in creativity as well as the ability to say whatever they want to. Its evident in how many nominations come from shows like Veep, Nurse Jackie, Girls, Breaking Bad and Homeland. The Academy is naturally going to gravitate toward those shows. I am a old-school network TV guy. I think Amy Poehler is just as funny or more so than Julia-Louis Dreyfus. Its just unfair.

The Emmys, TV’s Night To Shine – Tonight in Hollywood the world of TV will gather to celebrate their best and brightest talent. For a rundown of this years nominees check out the Emmy’s 2012 website

Jimmy Kimmel will host this years awards ceremony. It is sure to be funny. Its on ABC-TV (WTVC Newschannel 9 in Chattanooga) tonight at 8:00 PM.

Emmys Announced – Good Year For Downton and Sherlock

Standard

Sherlock and Downton Abbey were both nominated in the top categories for this years Emmy Awards. Benedict Cumberbatch of Sherlock as well as  Hugh Bonneville and Michelle Dockery of Downton Abbey were all nominated for awards.

What surprised me the most is that there were no broadcast network dramas nominated with the exception of Downton Abbey which is on PBS.

I was pleased to see Big Bang Theory and Modern Family both nominated for Best Comedy. Only one of the dramas nominated I watch is Downton Abbey.

Betty White at 90 years strong was nominated for Best Reality Show host. I would love to see Tom Bergeron and Dancing with the Stars pick up emmys this year.

I am glad that Hatfields and McCoys was nominated for Best Mini Series along with Kevin Costner and Bill Paxton were nominated for Best Actor in a Mini Series.

The Emmy’s are a bigger deal to me than the Oscar’s because I watch more TV than I see movies. It will be interesting to see who wins.
