Post Election Commentary

Many of my friends are disappointed by the results of the election. I can empathize with them because it could have been my candidate on the losing side tonight. However I am very disturbed by how they think our country is going to go further down a hole of despair. Some sort of bible prophecy is being unraveled because President Obama is in office. Others think its a further moving away from American values. President Clinton didn’t get this when he was re-elected neither did President GW Bush or Ronald Reagan from democrats. I find it really unfortunate that people who are of faith have fallen prey to fear mongering. People are naturally scared of change. Our country is not as “white” as it used to be. More and more people of Latin heritage are making up our national population along with other minorities. Racism is still a problem and I can’t help but wonder that our country has not gotten past that here in the 21st century. I am a Christian, a Democrat and an Obama voter and I regret none of those things. My friends you have to calm down. Our president is a devoted husband and father who wants the same things for his family as you do. Chill out people, be fair, be free of fear.

If by a “Liberal” they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people—their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights and their civil liberties—someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a “Liberal”, then I’m proud to say I’m a “Liberal.”
