The school house is a temple of learning
A place for growing
Books, pencils, chalk are instruments of instruction
Guns are instruments for destruction
The hallways are not meant for destruction
A place where kids should be safe
In Newtown it wasn’t that way on that December day.
Our children should be valued, Ms. Houston said they are our future
The man who spread fire down the hall came in as he pleased
20 little ones left too soon, 6 adults did too
The school house should be a happy place
Not violent and chaotic
Let us remember those faces, those names
May the survivors heal
A time to cry
Let them come back to the School House in a more peaceful time
May these souls be comforted in eternity and may we never forget this day in December when our nation wept.
From my global faith community The United Methodist Church. One way we are responding to the tragedy of the day in Newtown, Connecticut.
Let there be peace on earth
And let it begin with me.
Let there be peace on earth
The peace that was meant to be.
With God our creator
Children all are we.
Let us walk with each other.
In perfect harmony.Let peace begin with me
Let this be the moment now.
With every step i take
Let this be my solemn vow.
To take each moment
And live each moment
With peace eternally.
Let there be peace on earth,
And let it begin with me.

The gun control debate is a serious one. As I see what has happened over the past few months in Colorado at a movie theatre in Oregon at a shopping mall and today in Connecticut at a elementary school this has me wondering about our world. We see urban areas that experience violence daily and its a threat to everyone’s safety. The senseless violence we are seeing has me very concerned about the people who do these things. It doesn’t make sense. You have to wonder about what makes people feel like they have to kill others in order to be heard. It saddens me that there are so many weapons of destruction available so that things like this happen too often. God bless everyone who has suffered because of such heinous acts. May we find peace in our world sooner rather than later.
