I am a believer and I’m not a fan of street preachers. As a Christian I felt persecuted and judged for just being out on a date with my wife going to dinner and a movie. Non believers aren’t impressed with a person quoting scripture at them.

A Prayer For Everyone, Believer and Non-Believer
StandardGod of creation and love be with those who suffer or have moments of doubt about their role in the world. Thank you for being ever present in the lives of those who believe in you as well as those who don’t believe in you. May everyone know your love, grace and peace is open to everyone, everywhere, no matter what. To those who are persecuted in your name by those who seek to do harm I ask that you would heal the wounds of the persecuted and to forgive the trespasses of your children who need your love in a profound way. To those who face health situations may you give them healing and comfort, even to those who deny you. In the name of your son who taught us to live and love and forgive….Amen
Christ works on us through nature, books, our bodies, & sometimes experiences which seem (at the time) anti-Christian.
United Methodist Committee on Relief is a safe and sound way to give, as 100% of their donation will go towards disaster relief! They are one of the first on the ground in a disaster and leaves when the job is done.
The Irony of Lent and Valentine’s Day
StandardWednesday is Ash Wednesday which is the beginning of the Lenten season for many in the Christian faith. It is a time when people will give up something to focus on their lives in Christ. One popular thing to give up is Chocolate. It isn’t easy to do this but some do it. However with Valentine’s Day coming up on Thursday giving that special someone a box of chocolates is going to be troubling. Of course you could eat the chocolate on Sunday but as we all know the waiting is the hardest part.
The early Christians did not say in dismay: ‘look what the world has come to,’ but in delight, ‘look what has come to the world!
I am reading a book by Pastor Adam Hamilton called “Enough” which talks about discovering joy through simplicity and generosity. It addresses our need for stuff and consumerism from a faith-based perspective.
United Methodists rank highest in favorability among five different faith groups in a new survey conducted by the Southern Baptist Convention’s research arm. A 2008 Gallup poll that showed United Methodists have the highest positive ratings of religious and spiritual groups in the United States.
Such a beautiful image of Mama Mary…The greatest mother who ever lived.
Today I’m thankful to be a Christian in the United Methodist tradition & for my church White Oak UMC. Blessed be the name of the Lord.
