The Chattanooga National Cemetery, On Memorial Day

My wife’s father is buried here along with other people we know. Its a hallowed place where many of our nations heroes from around here and their families are buried. Its interesting to see the names of the fallen, what branch they served in and what war they were a part of, if any.

The Girl and Boy Scouts each year decorate the tombstones of each person with an American flag the weekend of Memorial Day.

Mother’s Day at The Chattanooga Market – My mom wanted to go to the Chattanooga Market today. Vendors were selling their wares to a very large crowd today. It was a special day after all. The market brings out people from all across the community and you never know who you will run into. For me it was a person I went to high school with and for Laura it was our wedding cake baker and a coworker. We look forward to going again soon when the crowd is not so big.

The Storm of 1993 – Twenty Years Ago

Standard

Twenty years ago I was a Junior at Middle Tennessee State University and home on Spring break. It was the most memorable Spring break ever because the skies opened up to drop 20 inches of snow on the area. At the time I lived on a mountain and there seemed to be more than 20 inches. The temps were colder too. The snow drifts were amazing. It was cold and very windy. As a family we bonded together and just chilled out and made the most of it.

It was a challenge to take our little Lhasa Apso Maggie dog outside because she was so small and the snow was so big. For many it was hard to get out and do anything. People were stuck at home for days. Clearing the show was a challenge too.

Chattanooga was shut down in many places. It was a blizzard that people around here still talk about, it was the Storm of The Century. Being home on break was good because I could be a part of it.

Chattanooga, my hometown has the fastest Internet in the nation. Our Electric Power Board offers one gigabyte of service to each home in its service area. CBS News this morning did a report on our Internet and gave the country a taste of what Chattanooga is doing in technology using this fast network.
