The Call

Standard

Everyone has a calling in life. It’s a personal thing that comes from much reflection and a lifetime of discovery. There is much discernment in the process of figuring out what one wants to do. Some folks are in the job they are called to while others are just figuring it out.

No matter what each of us has a call to answer. The phone is ringing and we must pick it up to see what opportunities are on the other side. Sometimes you have to do work along the way that will lead you to the situation that life has for you.

Whether it be answering phones or doing something else, every day is an opportunity to grow and learn.

Peeps on The Fringes

Standard

Jesus spent time calling the names of people who hadn’t felt a welcoming tone in a long time. He knew the power of giving people dignity to change their later potential. It still happens today. This is why Jesus is in the corner of those who are on the fringes of popularity in society. Friends this is why I am who I am because like a man called Zacchaeus who wasn’t a part of the elite was included in what Christ wanted to do to bring everyone along. It’s my desire to do the same thing.

Smart Phones, Yes You Can Talk On Them

Standard

It’s almost strange, while it shouldn’t be to get a call on your smartphone. Yes those devices can make and receive voice calls but you know you use that device for texting, web, apps and games more than you talk to someone on it.

I just got a call and it was almost strange to speak to a person on it. It was a reminder that yes you can talk on them. You can use your voice to talk instead of using your fingers to send a message.

Most of my communication seems to be text based and with my wife, family and friends. I guess we can’t forget those are phones too and its their primary purpose.

Do Your Part for The World and For Yourself

Standard

Everyone in life has their calling that makes the world a better place. Some are called to leadership while others are there to serve others. There are all sorts of things we can do. Teaching, feeding, building, holding, loving are all occupations that are needed in our communities. For those who follow Jesus there are all sorts of opportunities available. It is for the purpose of taking care of those who are in need or those who need a lift in life.

Palm Sunday is the celebration Jesus going into Jerusalem like a hero. He rode in on a donkey (some say colt) we all need that means of transport to carry us into our calling. For Jesus his calling was to give his life for everyone.

However you are called in life please use your talents to do good. Nerdfighters have a saying Don’t Forget To Be Awesome and I think it applies here the world can suck less if we all do our part. It requires courage and faith. There are so many creative opportunities out there.

Whatever and whoever you believe, know that you can make a difference. Don’t be afraid to try new things and always be willing to share your life and love to people who need it.

The Miracle of Skype

Standard

This afternoon we talked to Blake who is a soldier in the US Army serving in Kuwait via Skype. This service allows one to video or voice chat over the Internet. Video calling Blake was cool and gave us a chance to see how he was doing. He looked good but the connection on his end wasn’t so good. Millions use Skype every day to catch up. My parents use Skype when they go camping which is fun. Not everyone likes the visual part which is understandable.
