I heard today that one of Robin Williams’ daughters had to leave social media because she was being bullied/trolled by people on the Internet in the wake of her father’s passing. My friends there is zero excuse for that sort of behavior. Mean spirited comments are never good in the first place and especially in the wake of someone’s family passing away. It amazes me how nasty people can get, but then again it doesn’t surprise me. So many good people are impacted by the stupidity of some who have nothing better to do than to make fun, abuse and do horrible things. The web can be a place of peace if its citizens will allow it.

A Commentary: Our Online Lives
StandardFor many the Internet is a way to connect with this crazy world we live in. It’s a portal for information, education, enlightenment and entertainment. Unfortunately its not a completely safe space. People who’s lives are full of chaos can find themselves overwhelmed by messages that aren’t good for them. Its a unfortunate reality that users face online.
As bloggers we put our hearts and souls out there to share with the world. The ability to have an exchange of ideas is important build bridges between people. However its a place where mean people want to bully those who just want to find some acceptance in life. I believe its time to reclaim the global information highway for good purposes.
It’s a shame that some people have to tear others down to make them seem more important. Constructive criticism can be helpful to the individual and can encourage healthy dialogue. To me bullying, harassment and excessive profanity is unacceptable. Why does it require more of ourselves to be kind than it does to be hateful?
Folks are on sites like Tumblr to have fun and enjoy the creative process of building a blog and a community. Lets give each other a break and learn to love. This is a part of growing as a person and having a little grace with others. Be kind and be good to one another online.
If someone uses a blog or twitter or facebook to bully someone, they should have it all taken away. Social media should be left to those who are responsible.
The Blogging Blues
StandardThe best way to beat the blogging blues is to keep on blogging. You have a right to be a part of the blogosphere. Friends expression is a freedom that many don’t have. Enjoy the process of it all. If someone tries to tear you or your blog down ignore them, don’t let the bullies or terrorists win.
Bullying Is Not Cool…Ever.
StandardI have heard a story today bout a girl who was put up for homecoming court as a joke. She revealed that she was bullied throughout her life. Well her homecoming court story ended well because she had support from her community to turn it around to something positive.
Bullying is never good. When you have kids who want to be themselves and face harassment from people who think they are better than everyone else. As you see in Glee the choir is pelted with slushies and worse. I want to say that in real life and on screen the stories of bullying are disheartening and very sad.
Any person who seeks to live a life where they want to be themselves should be supported and encouraged. I support all the people who want to be loved and accepted for who they are. Bullies need correction and some tough love though. I hope that stories of bullying will go away someday soon.
