Hanging out at McKenzie Arena for some college basketball tonight.

March Madness Is Coming!

It’s that time for the NCAA Basketball Tournament which is better known as “March Madness”. Teams from around the country are wondering where they will be playing and if they will be playing. Above is a bracket that people will fill out and try to see if they can predict who will win at each stage of the tourney. It’s always an interesting time in American athletics.

College Basketball Night @ The Chattanooga Mocs

Tonight we went to see our local university the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga take on Elon University at McKenzie Arena on campus. It was a great matchup of two schools playing great basketball right now. The Mocs were riding a 8 game winning streak that was extended to 9 tonight. It’s good when the home team wins and you are cheering for the home team.

Before the game we went to Mount Vernon Restaurant for some classic southern cuisine.

Welcome Will Wade to Chattanooga – Today a reception and press conference was held to welcome the new University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men’s basketball coach Will Wade. He comes from Virginia Commonwealth University where he worked for Shaka Smart. Coach Wade will bring a type of aggressive play that will be known as “Chaos”.

I grew up watching Mocs basketball and Coach Wade promises to be a good one to get the team back on track. He is going to be great for Chattanooga and the University.

Welcome Coach Jim Foster to UT-Chattanooga

I am headed to UT-Chattanooga today to see the introduction of the new Lady Mocs basketball coach Jim Foster. He has been at St. Joes, Vandy and recently at Ohio State. Foster replaces Wes Moore who went to N.C. State recently. Its a big hire for UTC. He will bring experience and a winning record here. It’s going to be great.

Jim will be inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in June.

Pat Summitt – The Challenge of Her Life

In full disclosure I am not a University of Tennessee Volunteer fan and that makes me a rarity in my home state. Today it was announced that Pat Summit who is head coach of the Lady Vols basketball team has early onset dementia that will lead eventually to Alzheimer’s it made me sad.

My grandmother has a similar condition the difference is my grandmother is in her 80’s, coach summit isn’t even 60 yet. It is my hope for coach Summitt is that she will be able to deal with this with grace and will be able to manage her condition and her career on her terms.

This is not going to be easy for her but with support she will be able to have a rich, rewarding life while she battles this condition. At this time in her life having people around her to care for her is going to be a must. She has amazing care at her disposal. There are thousands of people around the world who are dealing with this same thing and perhaps she will be able to help them too. Coach Summitt you are in our prayers.
